The Brazilian Mercantile & Futures Exchange hosted on July, 18th, the seminar “Investment in China – The mechanisms available to Brazilian businesses”. The event was promoted by BM&F, by the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC), and by Veirano Advogados law office. The seminar discussed the several legal aspects of the commercial relations between Brazil and China, especially the safeguards and existing legal protections; investment opportunities and challenges; arbitrage; protection of intellectual property; and mergers and acquisitions in China. Since 2004, BM&F has a representative office in Shanghai to promote business between both countries.

At the event’s opening, Mr. João Lauro Amaral, BM&F’s International and Government Relations director, highlighted the seminar’s main objective: “It’s important to pinpoint the challenges and opportunities that the Chinese legal system represents to Brazilian businesses willing to invest in China”. Mr. Ronaldo Veirano, founding partner of Veirano Advogados, stressed the need of demonstrating the legal paths towards investing in China: “It’s always important to contribute to the debate of issues affecting Brazilian investments in China, as the country has gained the interest of Brazilian entrepreneurs”.

Mr. Michael M. Hickman, partner at Shanghai’s Simmons & Simmons; and Mr. Rodrigo Maciel, Executive Coordinator at Brazil-China Business Council, also participated in the event.
