Securities Industry Association President Marc E. Lackritz outlined initiatives to increase the diversity of the securities industry’s workforce. In testimony today before the House Financial Services Committee, Lackritz discussed the SIA Diversity Committee’s efforts, including teleconferences during which firms share ideas about starting a diversity program started and making a business case for diversity. The association’s biannual survey of firms’ diversity initiatives, he added, provides member-firms with benchmarking data and facilitates the sharing of “best practices.”
Programs at Edward Jones and Quick & Reilly were cited as examples of how firms, with the support of senior management, can institute significant, positive changes in their corporate cultures through commitment to diversity programs. Each of these firms has received the SIA’s Leadership Award, which recognizes a firm that has demonstrated a commitment to building a strong diversity program that has been implemented proactively.
