Securities Industry Association: Changes In Employment Trends Point To More Diverse US Workforce

Date 29/11/2004

The latest issue of Securities Industry Trends explores the demographic makeup of the securities industry’s workforce and how it is affected by the changing nature of the business. Rob Mills, Securities Industry Association vice president and director of industry research, shows that, while recent market forces – including increasing use of automation, continued consolidation, and workforce reductions – have negatively impacted women more than men, women are making significant inroads in the financial-services workforce. Surveys show that women now account for more of the higher-level, revenue-producing professionals. The structural and cyclical changes, which have reduced the number of traditionally female-dominated positions (such as receptionist and administrative workers), have been partially offset by the increasing presence of women in sales and management positions.
