Integrity is now a boardroom agenda item for all who work in the financial services industry, many of whom are rethinking their business propositions as they attempt to restore trust and confidence to the sector.

The importance of integrity in the business world is explored by SII Chief Executive, Simon Culhane FSI, who will begin the Institute’s New Year by presenting an interactive seminar in Mumbai, India on Integrity at Work in Financial Services. Mr. Culhane will examine real-life trust and integrity dilemmas from the financial services industry and the audience will be voting on which course of action they should take.

The seminar will be presented in Mumbai on 9th January 2009. The Indian perspective will be given by Mr. Sanjay Sinha – CEO DBS Cholamandalam, who will share mutual fund industry views on the subject. Mrs. Deena A Mehta, Managing Director of Asit C Mehta Investment Intermediates Ltd. will talk about integrity issues in the broking industry. The SII’s office in Mumbai opened in 2006 and the Institute launched in India the world’s first ever qualification for financial services IT staff working in operations, the IT in Investment Operations Award (ITIO), which was launched by the then Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Sir John Stuttard.

Simon Culhane FSI, Chief Executive of the SII said, “Trust is a critical component of business and during the last year we have seen the dramatic effects on the financial system when trust is absent. This highly participative seminar reinforces the key tenets of openness, honesty, fairness and transparency, which are so critical for the long term survival of any firm.”

The SII has also issued a position paper on executive compensation and remuneration which will be available for discussion at the seminar.

Over 2,000 SII qualifications have been taken in India during the last two years and a similar number is expected during 2009.
