Date 02/05/2000

The sector indexes for Neuer Markt will be introduced on May 15, as Deutsche Börse announced on Tuesday. Deutsche Börse's international growth segment is being subdivided into 10 sectors to make the market more transparent and easier to compare. The 10 sector indexes comprise Biotechnology, Financial Services, Industrials & Industrial Services, Internet, IT Services, Media & Entertainment, MedTech & Health Care, Software, Technology and Telecommunications. The currently 253 companies quoted on Neuer Markt will be assigned to the individual sectors according to their business activity. The indexes have a base date of December 30, 1999 with a base value of 100 points.

"Due to the Neuer Markt's success, the number of companies traded in this market has grown to the point where it makes sense to introduce sector indexes in addition to the blue-chip index", as Christoph Lammersdorf, the Executive Board member responsible for the Information Products Division, explained. "The sector indexes make it possible for investors to compare the trend in individual companies within a sector as well as the trend in individual sectors of Neuer Markt. Therefore, as an international provider of financial market information, Deutsche Börse is offering investors a new and reliable basis for their investment decisions."

The 10 sector indexes are part of the index family for Neuer Markt. The Nemax All-Share Index covers all companies in Neuer Markt, and the NEMAX 50 (blue chip) index the 50 biggest companies in the segment.
