Ethiopis Tafara, Director of the Commission's Office of International Affairs stated, "I am pleased that this year's Institute is our largest to date. We have gathered together members from financial, regulatory and law enforcement communities from around the world to learn from each other and work together to promote safe and efficient securities markets. We encounter some of our greatest resources at the Institute. The delegates each bring to the Institute a unique perspective as well as a wealth of knowledge about their markets. We recognize that no one has a monopoly on good ideas and that, in a globalized market, a regulatory concern in one country can quickly and effortlessly spread to another. The Institute affords participants and SEC staff the opportunity to share experiences."
This year, the Institute audience will include over 170 senior securities officials from 72 emerging market countries. Prior Institutes have provided training for nearly 1,400 officials from five continents.
The program will commence at 9:15 a.m. on April 17, 2006, with welcoming remarks by Mr. Tafara. This presentation will be open to the press and will be delivered at the SEC's Headquarters in the Auditorium, 100 F Street, N.E., Washington, D.C.
