The average for July 2001 was down very slightly on July 2000, easing from EUR 5.91 billion to 5.76 billion a day.
Since January 2001, daily trading on Euronext has averaged EUR 6.94 billion, up from EUR 6.71 billion in 2000, or a 3.5% rise.
On NextTrack, the compartment dedicated to exchange-traded funds, trading rose from a daily average of EUR 95.9 million in June to EUR 97.6 million in July.
NextTrack took the lead in Europe for exchange-traded funds in June, and in July widened this lead with market share up from 48% to 57%. NextTrack was launched on 9 January 2001 and now counts 14 Tracker funds.
Since the beginning of the year, Euronext's regulated markets have welcomed 26 IPOs which together have raised EUR 9.8 billion, (excluding transfers).
Capitalization of the 1,588 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled EUR 2,176 billion. Derivatives
On Euronext derivatives markets, trading fell back slightly in July, easing 2.66% on June with 31.55 million contracts changing hands.
In the first seven months of the year, 212.23 million futures and option contracts were traded. Of these, 55.8% were equity options, up 52.7% in the seven months to July. Altogether, trading in derivatives on Euronext rose 5.5% compared with 201.15 million options and futures contracts exchanged in the same period of 2000.
Trading in commodities contracts rose steeply in July, with options up 7.8% and futures soaring 72.5%.
Euronext N.V., the first pan-European exchange was created in September 2000 by the merger of the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris exchanges. Euronext N.V. has itself been listed on Euronext Paris, since July 6, 2001.
