S&P/TSE 60 Index Futures (SXF) Hits The 1 million mark

Date 11/08/2000

The Montreal Exchange set a new record yesterday with its S&P/TSE index futures contract (SXF). After only 11 months of trading, the SXF hit the 1 million mark of contracts traded, representing a value in excess of 1,000 billion dollars.

The S&P/TSE index futures (SXF) contract was launched by the Montreal Exchange on September 7, 1999, along with the options and long-term options LEAPS® on that same index. Further adding to this range of products, the Montreal Exchange launched on February 10, 2000, options on and long-term options LEAPS® on the iUnitsTM S&P®/TSETM 60 Index Participation Fund.

"The SXF has shown excellent growth since its launch, which is promising for the new contracts we plan to launch in the fall. This success is very encouraging for the Montreal Exchange, but it's only the beginning, " said Luc Bertrand, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Montreal Exchange.

The Montreal Exchange wishes to thank its market-maker firms who have largely contributed to this success: BMO Nesbitt Burns Ltd., CIBC World Markets Inc., National Bank Financial Inc., and Scotia Capital Inc.
