Over the week of January 19 – January 23, 2009, the RTS Index went down by 12,10% to reach 498,20 points (566,77 points as of January 16, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) (minus 16,15 points), OAO "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (minus 8,06 points) and Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (minus 7,51 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 shed 8,86% to reach 463,36 points (508,41 points as of January 16, 2009). Last week all the economy sectors represented on the Russian Stock Market closed in the negative territory. The major loser was the financials sector, the corresponding index shrank by 18,60%. Significant decline was registered in power sector with the corresponding index losing 17,07%. The telecom sector showed the slightest drop. The RTSI – Telecom decreased by 7,37%.

The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of OJSC Concern "KALINA" (KLNA) – by 8,11% to $6,0 and ordinary shares of JSC "The Seventh Continent" (SCON) – by 6,04% to $6,5.
The week's top losers were privileged shares of OJSC "GAZ" (GAZAP), that fell in price by 41,18% to reach $5,0, ordinary shares of OJSC Uralkali (URKA) that closed 39,23% down at $1,1 per share and ordinary shares of Mechel ОАО (MTLR) that posted 35,71% loss at $2,25.
