Over the week of December 8th – December 12th, 2008, the RTS Index went up by 10,58% to reach 652,21 points (589,79 points as of December 5th, 2008). Most of the positive impact on the Index dynamics was related to the growing prices for ОАО "LUKOIL" ordinary shares (LKOH) (plus 19,66 points), ordinary shares of OJSC "OC "Rosneft" (ROSN) (plus 11,44 points) and Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) (plus 7,07 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 showed a growth of 3,26% to reach 557,33 points (539,74 points as of December 5th, 2008). Last week most of the key economy sectors represented on the Russian Stock Market closed in the green. The major positive contributor was the metals & mining sector, the corresponding index increased by 20,17%. Significant growth was registered in the financials, with the corresponding index gaining 12,75%. The main loser was the power sector. The RTSI – Electric Utilities went down by 1,39%.
