Over the week of August 17 – August 21, 2009, the RTS Index went down by 0.89% to reach 1,050.44 points (1,059.92 points as of August 14, 2009). Most of the negative impact on the Index dynamics was related to the falling prices for ordinary shares of JSC "RusHydro" (HYDR) (minus 5.24 points), ordinary shares of OJSC "OC "Rosneft" (ROSN) (minus 1.84 points) and ordinary shares of OJSC Uralkali (URKA) (minus 1.73 points).
The
"second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced a decrease closing at
926.86 points (1.45% down against 940.49 points as of August 14, 2009). Last
week most key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market closed in
the negative territory. The largest decline was demonstrated by the power
sector, with the RTS Index – Electric Utilities going down by 5.24%. A
significant decrease was also registered in the metals & mining sector, with
the corresponding index losing 1.56%. The largest growth was reported by the
industrial sector, with the RTS Index – Industrial climbing 2.84%.

The total trading volume
on RTS for the week August17 – August 21, 2009 equaled USD7.5 billion (240.2
billion roubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS
Standard totaled USD1,008.7 million.
The week's top sellers
were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with a turnover of USD433.258 million
followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD270.052 million
and ordinary shares of ОАО
"LUKOIL" (LKOH) with a turnover of USD109.198 million. The share of
each security in the total trading volume made up 41.71%, 26.00% and 10.51%
respectively.
The week's top gainers
were ordinary shares of OJSC "Power machines" (SILM) that went up by
18.18% to USD0.13 followed by ordinary shares of O.J.S.C. "Uralsvyazinform"
(URSI) – by 13.06% to USD0.0168 and ordinary shares of RSC Energia (RKKE) that
went up by 11.32% to reach USD189.24.
The week's top losers were
ordinary shares of JSC "RusHydro"
(HYDR) that fell in
price by 13.95% to reach USD0.0364 followed by ordinary shares of Surgutneftegas
(SNGS) – by 8.54% to USD0.718 and ordinary shares of JSC "IDGC
Holding" (MRKH) – by 7.55% to USD0.049.
