In February 2009 the RTS Index went up by 1.78% to 544.58 points as of February 27, 2009 against 535.04 points as of January 30, 2009.
Most of the positive impact on the RTS Index dynamics was coming from growing prices for Surgutneftegas ordinary shares (SNGS) (plus 11.14 points), OJSC "Polyus Gold" ordinary shares (PLZL) (plus 4.54 points) and Rosneft ordinary shares (ROSN) (plus 3.23 points).
The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 increased by 0.69% to reach 440.86 points (437.86 points as of January 30, 2009). Almost all the key sectors represented on the Russian stock market showed a positive trend. The major positive contributor was the metals & mining sector, with the corresponding sectoral index shedding 17.06%. Consumer & retail sector reported a significant gain – 10.32%. The largest decline was registered in the industrial sector, with the RTS Index – Industrial losing 12.18%.

In February the US dollar gained 2.99% against the rouble to 35.72 roubles per US dollar (34.68 as of January 30, 2009).
In February 2009 the trading volume on RTS equaled 6.5 billion dollars (232.5 billion roubles*), including all types of trades.
The top sellers of the month on the RTS Stock Market were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) – $58.7 million, Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) – $12.8 million, followed by ordinary shares of OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" (GMKN) – $9.1 million. The share of the above securities in the turnover made up 44.05%, 9.62% and 6.82% respectively.
The top gainers of the month were ordinary shares of Synergy, Co. (SYNG) that experienced a 175.0% growth to reach $2.75, ordinary shares of "Krasnyj Octyabr Co." (KROT) that went up by 120.0% to reach $5.5 and ordinary shares of "FGC UES ", JSC (FEES) that gained 64.53% to end up at $0.00385 per share.
The top losers of the month were ordinary shares of "VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation" (VSMO) that fell in price by 35.71% to reach $18.0, ordinary shares of OJSC "ROSINTER RESTAURANTS HOLDING" (ROST) that went down by 35.0% to reach $3.25 and ordinary shares of OJSC LSR Group (LSRG) that shed 17.18% to $3.0395.
