RTS Stock Exchange: Record Monthly Trading Volume in Options

In September 2004 monthly trading volume in options on FORTS (Futures&Options on RTS) reached its all-time maximum - 397 thousand contracts, 10% than the previous record of 360 thousand shown in April 2004. The most popular was the options contract on 'RAO UES of Russia' futures - 48% of total trading volume, followed by the options on 'Gazprom" futures and 'LUKOil' futures - 26,7% and 24,8%, accordingly.

"OLMA" investment company traded the most actively, having come up from the sixth place in August trading activity ratings. "OLMA" was followed by 'Zenit' bank, 'Eltra' investment company and 'TRUST' and 'Solidarnost' investment banks.

'Increased trading activity and the increase in open positions in options prove that companies and their clients are increasingly interested in options", says Roman Goryunov, head of FORTS. 'FORTS market development will be related to new options contract introductions'.
