RTS Index Exceeds 400 For The First Time Since 1998

RTS Index closed at 402.91 on May 14. Thus it exceeded 400 for the first time since 1998. The last time the RTS Index exceeded this point was on January 6, 1998, when it reached 410.04.

By the end of the day the RTS Index grew by 5.12% and the daily change reached +2.45% versus closing data for the previous date (May 13).

Since the beginning of 2002 the RTS Index indicator increased by 50.5% (on January 3 it reached 267.70). On May 14 traditional RTS market trading volume amounted to $21.4 million.

The RTS Index is the main indicator of the Russian stock market. It has been calculated since September 1, 1995 on the basis of the prices of the most liquid stocks, traded on the RTS Stock Exchange. The initial parameter of RTS Index was 100. The highest point was fixed on October 6, 1997, when it closed at 571.66, the lowest point was 37.74 on October 2, 1998.
