RTS Classic Market Weekly Trading Results, January 10th – January 13th, 2006

Date 16/01/2006

During the week of January 10th, 2006 – January 13th, 2006, RTS Index gained 10.1% and grew to 1239.8 (1126.09 as of December 30th, 2006). On Thursday, January 12th, 2006, the Index posted the all-time closing value record – 1255.92, and on Friday morning, January 13th, the Index posted the all-time intraday record of 1261.57. The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 – increased by 6.81% to 1381.1 (1293.05 as of December 30th, 2005). The significant Index growth in the first trading week can be explained by the market's attempt to catch up with the lag behind ADR for Russian companies that significantly grew in price over the holidays.

Total trading volume on RTS Classic Market for the week equaled 407.5 billion dollars. On Thursday and Friday, for two days in a row, the market beat the eight-year-old trading volume record. On Friday, the 13th of January, 2006, daily trading volume exceeded 135 million US dollars, mainly because "Gazprom" stock began to trade on the RTS Classic market. During the last trading day of the week "Gazprom" accounted for 46% of the total trading volume.

Trading of "Gazprom" on the RTS Classic Market will not dilute liquidity on "Gazprom" T+0 market with ruble settlement created jointly by RTS Stock Exchange and St. Petersburg Stock Exchange. RTS Classic Market is the only regulated securities market in Russia that gives its clients an opportunity to settle in US dollars. From now on, foreign investors that do not wish to buy more expensive ADRs or settle their local trades in rubles can buy and sell "Gazprom" on a local market with US dollar settlement.

The best selling stocks that week were "LUKOil" common stock ( LKOH ), their weekly trading volume reaching $70,611 million, "Gazprom" common stock ( GAZP ) with total weekly turnover of $62,161 million, and "Savings Bank of the Russian Federation" ( SBER ) - $60,556 million. The share of each security in total trading volume reached 17.33%, 15.25% and 14.86%, accordingly.
