On November 1, 2007 OJSC “Russian Trading System” Stock Exchange” starts publishing a new Sectoral Index: “RTS Index – Electric Utilities” (RTSeu).
Creation of RTSeu is preconditioned by a gradual liberalization of the Russian electrical power market. The main purpose for calculating “RTS Index - Electric Utilities” is to provide the investment society with the new indicators of dynamics of electric utility industry, which will help to evaluate the environment on the Russian stock market and develop investment strategies.
“RTS Index – Electric Utilities” includes 14 shares of the leading power generating, grid and sales companies:

Also in the closest time RTS will start publishing “RTS Index – Finance” (RTSfn), which is important for evaluating the Russian financial market. RTSfn will include 8 securities of the banks that trade on the Russian stock market.
Calculation of Sectoral Indices in the real-time mode started on December 15, 2006 according to the decision of the Board of Directors of OJSC “Russian Trading System” Stock Exchange” as of December 14, 2006, and retrospective index calculation was performed since January 11, 2005, when the value of all indices was 100 units.
At the moment the list of Sectoral Indices includes:
RTSog: RTS Index – Oil and Gas
RTScr: RTS Index – Consumer and Retail
RTSmm: RTS Index – Metals and Mining
RTSin: RTS Index – Industrial
RTStl: RTS Index – Telecom
Methoology of calculating RTS Sectoral Indices is based on the methodology of calculating RTS Index, but has some peculiarities:
- sectoral index includes shares of the companies that belong to a definite economics sector,
- shares weight of one company-issuer is limited by value 25%,
- the number of shares in the indices varies usually from 10 to 15
