The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration today unanimously re-elected Rob Feckner to a third term as its President and Robert F. Carlson as Vice President.
Feckner, who is a representative on the Board for school members, was first elected to the CalPERS Board in 1998. He serves as a member of the Health Benefits, Investment, and Ad Hoc Board Elections Committees. He is also Vice Chair of the Benefits and Program Administration Committee and Chair of the Ad Hoc Board Governance Committee.
Feckner previously served as the Board’s Vice President and Chair of the Investment Committee.
“I am honored that my fellow board members chose me to serve a third term as President,” said Feckner. “Our Board’s mission is to protect the financial and health security of our members and retirees, invest wisely, and minimize employer costs.”
CalPERS Board President oversees the Board’s business, sets meeting schedules and agendas with input from other Board Members and executive staff, makes appointments to Board policy committees, and represents CalPERS to outside parties.
Carlson was re-elected to his third consecutive year as Vice President. He has served on the CalPERS Board since 1971, and served as Board President from 1976 to 1985 and Vice President from 2000 to 2002. Carlson is elected by and from CalPERS retired members. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Carlson was Chief Counsel for the California Department of Transportation.
“We face many challenges in the next year, but this board will work tirelessly to protect our defined benefit plan, reduce the rising costs of health care, and assert our rights as long-term shareowners of corporations,” said Carlson.
The Vice President assumes all duties in the President’s absence, and carries out special duties assigned by the President.
CalPERS is the nation’s largest public pension fund in the U.S. with more than $235 billion in assets. The System provides retirement and health benefits to nearly 1.5 million State and local public employees and their families.
