The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration today unanimously re-elected Rob Feckner to a fourth term as its President and George Diehr as Vice President.
Feckner, who is a representative on the Board for school members, was first elected to the CalPERS Board in 1998. He serves as a member of the Health Benefits, Investment, and Ad Hoc Board Elections Committees. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Benefits and Program Administration Committee and Chair of the Ad Hoc Board Governance Committee. Feckner previously served as the Board's Vice President and Chair of the Investment Committee.
"I am honored that my fellow board members have selected me to serve a fourth term as President," said Feckner. "We face many challenges in the pension, health care, and investment arena. Our goals remain the same - to protect the retirement and health security of our members, manage our investments, and be mindful of the employer sponsors we serve."
Feckner lives and works in Napa, where he is employed with the Napa Valley Unified School District.
He is also President of the California School Employees Association, and is serving his 13th year on the Association's Board of Directors. Last year, he was elected as an Executive Vice President of the California Labor Federation.
President Feckner oversees the Board's business, sets meeting schedules and agendas with input from other Board Members and executive staff, makes appointments to Board policy committees, and represents CalPERS to outside parties.
Vice President Diehr, who represents state employees, including employees of the California State University System, was first elected to the CalPERS Board in 2002.
He also serves on the Benefits and Program Administration Committee and is Chair of the Health Benefits Committee and Vice Chair of the Investment Committee.
Diehr is a professor of management science in the College of Business Administration at California State University (CSU) at San Marcos. He joined CSU in 1990. Previously, he was Associate Professor of Information Systems, School of Business Administration at the University of Washington.
The Vice President assumes all duties in the President’s absence, and carries out special duties assigned by the President.
"I appreciate the opportunity to serve as a Board member and Vice President, and look forward to engaging with all of our constituencies to meet the challenges we face this year," Vice President Diehr said.
CalPERS is the nation's largest public pension fund in the U.S. with more than $240.6 billion in assets. The System provides retirement and health benefits to nearly 1.5 million State and local public employees and their families.
