Reuters Supports 'World Press Freedom Day' And The Principles Of A Free And Independent Press

Date 02/05/2014

Reuters is proud to support the UN General Assembly's annual 'World Press Freedom Day' on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Recognizing the many journalists around the world who are threatened or who have lost their lives in reporting the news, Reuters remains committed to the principles of a free press everywhere in the world - and the rights of journalists to go about their jobs without fear or hindrance in reporting the truth.

"Journalism is an incredibly important tool in creating free, open and informed societies," said Reuters Editor-in-Chief Stephen J. Adler. "The ability of journalists to report freely on critical issues of politics, policy and leadership without fear of prosecution or retaliation is crucial in ensuring that people have access to the information that directly affects their personal and professional lives. 'World Press Freedom Day' reminds us that journalists remain under threat in many places around the world and that we must remain firm in our commitment to making the principles of press freedom a reality everywhere."
