Reuters/Jefferies CRB Contract To Launch July 12th

Date 28/06/2005

The New York Board of Trade® (NYBOT®) will begin trading the Reuters/Jefferies CRB (RJ/CRB) Futures Price Index futures contract on July 12th, 2005, with options available the next business day.

Trading in the RJ/CRB will commence with the first listed month of September 2005. Effective with this introduction, the RJ/CRB futures will list four months on a quarterly cycle (March, June, September and December). The RJ/CRB contract also features a multiplier of $200 times the Index. The new contract size provides easier access to the Index market. Real-time data for the RJ/CRB Cash Index became generally available on June 20th under the current CRB ticker symbols.

The current version of the Reuters CRB Index has been renamed the “Continuous Commodity Index” and became available for trading under the symbol “CI” on June 20th.

New York ’s original futures exchange began trading the CRB in its index marketplace in 1986; the name of the index changed to the Reuters CRB Index in 2001. Now again renamed as the Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index, these contracts offer investors direct access to an asset class that may diversify their holdings, improve portfolio returns, reduce overall portfolio risk and hedge against inflation. The original launch date for the RJ/CRB of July 11th, was changed to accommodate the monthly rebalancing of the Index.
