The 2014 World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) General Assembly and Annual Meeting held in Seoul from October 28th to October 29th closed successfully under the support of about 300 attendees from over 60 countries such as representatives of exchanges, international organizations, governments and regulators, media outlets and experts in academic/industry circles.
During the General Assembly, Mr. Kyungsoo Choi, Chairman & CEO of the Korea Exchange (KRX), was appointed as a director representing the Asia Pacific to a two-year term, winning five onsecutive terms since 2007. This is expected to help enhance the KRX’s status in the international community and to contribute to reinforcing overseas businesses (e.g. exporting the Korean stock market infrastructure, expanding the global alliances, etc.).
In addition, the KRX obtained desired results such as signing of MOUs* with four other exchanges including the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and drawing up of a detailed business plan for cooperation with foreign exchanges including the Japan Exchange Group (JPX) and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) by having more than 10 meetings during the WFE assembly.
At the annual meeting, relevant professionals and experts addressed various themes on the exchange industry’s way forward and challenges. Eight sessions of panel discussion were organized regarding the environment of the exchange industry experiencing a seismic transition sparked by the recent regulatory changes and stiff competition, and received positive feedback from attendees.
