The meeting of the political party leaders, headed by the Acting President of the Republic, Mr Yiannakis Omirou, at the Presidential Palace, where they were being briefed by the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, on his contacts in Brussels, was concluded at around 1.30 am today.
In his statements to the Press after the end of the party leaders meeting, Mr Omirou said: “The President of the Republic informed the party leaders that there seems to be an initial agreement in principle that is taking shape at the level of the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, the Director of the IMF and the President of the European Central Bank.”
He noted, however, that “this agreement will be presented shortly before the Eurogroup, which is the competent body that will make the final decisions.”
He added that “given that there is an initial agreement at this level, there is a great possibility that this agreement will also be approved by the Eurogroup, which is the competent body to make the final and irrevocable decision.” Mr Omirou noted that the Eurogroup will issue a press release on the content of the agreement.
Asked whether the agreement includes the issue regarding the Bank of Cyprus, Mr Omirou said that “everything that has been mentioned in the media during the last few days with regard to the Bank of Cyprus, to the effect that there was a possibility for it to come under what is called ʽresolutionʼ, does not seem to be included in this agreement.” |
