Renault Makes Use Of EEX Transparency Data For New Electric Car

Date 19/03/2013

The French car manufacturer Renault utilizes data from the Transparency Platform operated by European Energy Exchange (EEX). The “Transparencyin Energy Markets” platform (www.transparency.eex.com) displays, among other data, the amount of electricity generated from renewable energies. In the framework of the new “ZOE charging eco2” service Renault applies the generation data to inform buyers of the electric car “ZOE” about the time at which production from renewables is particularly high and, hence, when charging their electric car is climate friendly.

The “Renault ZOE” is a small electric car manufactured by the French car company which was recently presented on the international Geneva motor show. According to Renault, “ZOE charging eco2” is the first service worldwide which allows customers to charge electric vehicles “smart and at the right time”.

“We are pleased that with Renault we have acquired a customer that actively uses the data provided by our transparency platform to combine mobility with climate protection. This is a positive example how companies can contribute to climate protection with their product innovations”, says Steffen Köhler, Chief Operating Officer of EEX.

Renault procures the power generation data from the EEX transparency platform under an Info-Vendor contract. The market data regarding all products traded on the exchange or registered for OTC clearing can be procured electronically from EEX as Info-Products. Moreover, EEX provides wind and solar data as well as the conventional power plant data from the “Transparency in Energy Markets” platform as information products for professional use.

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is the leading energy exchange in Europe. It develops, operates and connects secure, liquid and transparent markets for energy and related products on which power, natural gas, CO2 emission allowances and coal are traded. Clearing and settlement of all trading transactions are provided by the clearing house European Commodity Clearing AG (ECC). EEX is a member of Eurex Group.
