Record Year For Mining Financing On Toronto Stock Exchange - TSX And TSX Venture Exchange Head To Australia To Highlight The Advantages Of The World’s Leading Mining Markets

2009 has been a record year for financing raised by mining companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange. As of September 30, 2009, $17 billion has been raised on Toronto Stock Exchange through 264 financings, which exceeds full-year 2008 totals; 60 of these financings exceeded $50 million each. The two exchanges have had 59 new mining listings during the first nine months of 2009.

Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange are the number one global listing destinations for mining companies; they are home to 55 per cent of the world’s public mining companies. As of September 30, 2009, there were 123 international mining companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, more than any other exchange group in the world. Representatives from Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, as well as capital market partners from Canadian law and investment banking firms, are in Perth, Australia today to host a listing seminar for mining companies interested in accessing the Canadian markets.

“Our exchanges are in Perth today with a simple message – we lead the world in the mining sector,” said Ungad Chadda, Senior Vice President, Toronto Stock Exchange. “International interest in our markets continues to grow with mining companies of all sizes and with investors.”

The Australian market represents a strong growth opportunity for the exchanges. There are currently 26 Australian mining companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, with a combined market capitalization of $23.8 billion as of September 30, 2009. In addition, there have been 31 Australian issuer financings on Toronto Stock Exchange, with $1.8 billion of capital raised.
