Novo Nordisk was the most actively traded share of the month with a turnover of DKK 7.3 billion, while Tele Danmark was an unaccustomed second most-active share with a turnover of DKK 5.1 billion. Nordic Baltic Holding was third with DKK 3.9 billion.
The KFX companies reached a total turnover of DKK 40.3 billion and they accounted for 59 per cent of the total turnover. Three KFX companies were to be found among the 20 star performers. Novo Nordisk was the KFX share that recorded the sharpest price rise of 19 per cent during the month of May. Danisco and Den Danske Bank saw price rises of 17 and 13 per cent, respectively. The poorest performance was in Navision Software, it dropped by 51 per cent.
The KFX Index gained 2.3 per cent compared with end-April and 43.8 per cent compared with end-May 1999. The KFMX Index, which comprises the small and medium-sized companies, gained 0.5 per cent compared with end-April.
In May, the Danish companies raised a total of DKK 771 million through issues, and ISS accounted for DKK 550 million. Moreover, May closed with an introduction - the third of this year - when M&E Biotech went public on 31 May.
The bond trading volume amounted to DKK 494 billion in market value, an average daily value of trading of DKK 22.4 billion, a rise of 8 per cent on April 2000 and a fall of 19 per cent compared with May 1999. The government bonds reached a turnover of DKK 268 billion in market value and the standard mortgage credit bonds DKK 197 billion.
The average true yield closed the month at 6.39 per cent, a rise of 25 basis points compared with end-April. On 18 May, the average true yield peaked with 6.45 per cent.
At the end of May 2000, the volume of bonds in circulation amounted to DKK 1,905 billion, which was almost the same as in April. In nominal terms the figure was DKK 1,936 billion.
Turnover in futures and options totalled 77,479 contracts in May, a 23 per cent fall over the month in the average daily trading volume. The most actively traded instrument was the KFX future with 74,058 traded contracts, which accounted for 95.6 per cent of the total FUTOP turnover.
