Date 19/11/2012

On Monday November 12, the Qatar Exchange gave a presentation to the Pakistani Professional Forum Qatar at the Al Sharq Hotel.  The presentation, which was entitled “Qatar Exchange – an Investment Opportunity for Professionals”, is part of a greater QE strategy to engage with the non-Qatari investor base in Qatar.  QE is reaching out to the expatriate community in Qatar to raise awareness about investment opportunities that exist for all investors and to spread the word that QE’s doors are open to all investors – not just Qataris.  Throughout the year, QE has given many presentations to local business councils and reaching out to the Pakistani Professional Forum Qatar was important as the Forum is active in Qatar and thus necessary to let the professionals in the forum know about the opportunities that exist for them at QE.

Mr. Mohsin Mujtaba, Director of Product and Market Development at Qatar Exchange gave the presentation on behalf of QE to an audience of about 100 professionals from the Pakistani Professional Forum Qatar.  Mr. Mujtaba talked about the following topics:

1. Why investment is an important part of your savings plan.
2. Investments opportunities provided by QE for
3. How to trade and invest in QE market.

“Cash savings deplete over the course of time due to inflation and hence it’s important to convert part of your savings into investments to benefit from the growth in the economy and markets. Qatar’s economy has seen tremendous growth and will continue to grow with massive development plans in the pipeline. Qatar Exchange listed companies offer investment opportunities to benefit from the growth of the economy” said Mohsin Mujtaba.

Following the half an hour presentation, QE facilitated a panel discussion that followed with Mr. Parvez Khan, GM CB Investment Services, Commercial Bank of Qatar; Akber Khan, Director, Asset Management, Al Rayan Investment and Mr. Ather Naqi, Marketing Manager – Asset Management, Qatar National Bank.  The panel discussion focused on various asset classes across geographies in the current economic climate.

Panelists discussed asset classes and industries that are expected to perform well due to government spending, changing demographics and the oil and gas sector performance in Qatar. Participants appreciated that investment on the QE is not a function of residency status in Qatar and investors can continue to trade or liquidate even after they have given up residency status in Qatar. Also, opening a trading account is very simple and trading can be done online without ever the need to visit the exchange. Participants were from all walks of professional lives including engineers, finance professionals, doctors, accountants, businessmen and HR specialists.

In closing remarks, founder and chairman of PPFQ Dr. Mazhar Monga thanked QE for their effort to bring investment opportunities to PPFQ forum and noted the contribution of Pakistanis in the progress of Qatar.
