Let me first introduce to you the industry-wide PR activities regarding countermeasures against financial crime.
The amount of damage due to investment fraud using SNS has increased by four times from the previous year, and countermeasures are urgently required. In order to prevent damage, it is vital to stop the misuse of deposit and savings accounts. For that purpose, it is important to constantly check whether accounts are properly used by account holders.
Therefore, financial institutions have asked users to update their personal information, such as address and occupation, by sending them post cards and letters. However, in reality, many users do not respond.
Accordingly, in order to make users understand the procedures for confirming personal information and ask for their cooperation, the Financial Services Agency (FSA), the National Police Agency, and financial associations will launch the first public-private joint PR activities involving the industry as a whole and will strengthen efforts to raise people's awareness using diverse media, including the internet.
Individual people's understanding and cooperation will lead to the prevention of fraud damage and eventually to the protection of the safety and security of the whole nation. We would like to also ask the media for cooperation in disseminating this initiative and raising people's awareness.
