On 23 August, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya and his delegation visited Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE). Chen Dongzheng, Chairman of SZSE received the guests and held talks with the Kenyan delegation.
Chen Dongzheng gave a brief introduction to SZSE’s efforts in building a multi-tiered capital market, especially the role the capital market plays in economic transition and industry upgrading. He said SZSE’s belief of “building consensus and forming synergy” coincide with the Kenyan national spirit of “Harambee (all pull together)”. President Kenyatta said he had observed that the impressive growth of SZSE was driven by unity of purpose, focus, discipline and diligence. President Kenyatta said the Kenyan government was creating an environment conducive for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to thrive. The Nairobi Securities Exchange was planning to construct a market segment for SMEs andKenya would like to strengthen communication with SZSE.
President Kenyatta also rang the opening bell for trading. He was accompanied by Chinese Ambassador Liu Guangyuan and vice mayor of Shenzhen Zhang Wen.
