Prague Stock Exchange: Trading Results On The Exchange In 2002

The total trade value in 2002 reached CZK 1,793.1 bil. which represents a 9.8% decrease in comparison with the record 2001 trade value CZK 1,987.2 bil. Above all the lower trade value on the market of bonds took a share in decline of the total trade value. The trade value in bonds reached the value of CZK 1,595.7 bil. and represents decline by 14.1% on 2001. On the contrary the marked revival was recorded on the market of shares and units when the trade value increased year-on-year by 53.3% at CZK 197.4 bil. The most liquid share issue was the issue KOMERCNÍ BANKA with the total yearly trade value CZK 76.8 bil. and 38.9% share in the yearly trade value on the share and unit market.

At the same time the share market registered also positive price development. Markedly the the cross-sectional share indices were better. The value of the official index PX 50 enhanced year-on-year by 16.75%, index PX-D by 9.46% and PX-GLOB index by 17.02%. From sectors with important market capitalisation the sector index - Finance and Banking increased year-on-year by 54.58%, Power Generation by 30.68%. Sector Transport and Communications recorded unsuccessful year and its index missed out by 32.66%.

The most important event in the year 2002 was admission of the first foreign share issue ERSTE BANK to trading on the Main market of the Exchange and from October 1 opening of trading with this issue in the trading segment SPAD.
