Powernext Is Appointed To Operate The National Registry Of Energy Savings Certificates

Date 19/09/2017

Powernext has been appointed by the French Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition as the new National Registry of Energy Savings Certificates operator. This nomination, announced by the Ministry in August 2017, will be effective on 1st January 2018 for an initial period of 5 years. Powernext will succeed Locasystem International which has been the registry operator since 2006.

The Energy Savings Certificate mechanism, implemented in 2006, aims at encouraging consumers to pursue actions reducing their energy use. These incentives must be initiated by energy supply companies.

This scheme is based on 3-year periods for which the government sets an energy saving objective and assigns individual shares to energy suppliers. Powernext’s debut will mark the start of the mechanism’s 4th period, scheduled from January 2018 to December 2020 (read more about the mechanism on the Ministry’s website – in French).

Operator of the National Registry of Guarantees of Origin since 2013 and service provider for RTE’s Electricity Capacity Registry since 2015, Powernext will provide its expertise to the Energy Savings Certificates mechanism.

“Currently involved in the development of renewable electricity through the guarantees of origin, Powernext is proud to commit today to one of the other major pillars of the energy transition: energy saving. We intend to contribute all our qualifications to support this scheme which has already allowed the energy consumption of French households to be significantly reduced”, confirms Egbert Laege, CEO of Powernext.
