October trading activity on PLUS, the new stock exchange for London, soared to new volume records with a 45% increase on bargains to 806,575 and number of shares up by 23.72% at 3,278 million against last month. Trade value kept steady at £4,382 million.
In the same month, PLUS emerged as the leading exchange in UK retail trades with October first half figures showing PLUS attracting more retail UK daily business than any other UK exchange. For the first two weeks, average daily PLUS retail volume was 42,497 bargains. Available information from the LSE website shows an average daily volume of 32,756 of retail trades.
Additionally, PLUS once again commanded 50% or more market share in 763 UK small and mid-cap securities (September: 735). In addition to the 223 PLUS quoted stocks, this leading market position comprises over 500 Official List Fledgling and Small Cap stocks, and some AIM securities dual-trading on PLUS.
As PLUS demonstrates small and mid-cap gains, its market share in large caps remains robust, with October reflecting new trading highs, in particular - PLUS posted over 12% market share by trade value in HBOS alone:
October’s trading gains follow an exceptionally active September for PLUS, which saw previous high volume figures more than double to reach trading records and market share highlights. Business Development Director Cyril Theret said “We are extremely pleased with the way the UK equity market is moving order flow to PLUS. It lends strong support to our claim currently lodged with the High Court for restrictions on trading all AIM stocks to be removed, as well as affirming our position as the new stock exchange for London.”
