The European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) has been a victim of a planned attack. An email in circulation originating from eex.transparency@web.de has been sent to the EEX on February 19th of this year. This email was received by a mailing list unknown to the EEX.
Attached to the email was a Powerpoint presentation titled in German, “Wie der Referenzpreis für den deutschen Strommarket zusatande kommt” as well as an Excel table titled “EEXTranspareny.xls”. This email and attachments contain false statements on the transparency politics of the EEX as well as incorrect details of trading activities, on which the EEX is not the source.
Neither the email nor the attachments have been compiled or distributed by the EEX. The EEX distances itself from this content.
After reviewing the situation, the EEX has come to the conclusion that this incident is an attack on its reputation. External access to the system and exchange data has been ruled out. The EEX shall take all possible legal steps to bring this attack to justice.
The EEX has already informed all supervisory bodies and committees on the matter as well as the trading participants. These bodies and committees, as well as the press, shall be kept informed.
