Mr. Garcia brings to his job an unblemished record of service both in the private and public sectors. His professional career started with the Ayala Group of companies where he handled both legal and corporate work.
His experience and exposure with capital market started in 1970 when he was recruited to manage A.F. Gonzalez and Company, a stockbrokerage firm in the Makati Stock Exchange. Subsequently, in partnership with two others, he acquired the brokerage company and renamed it RTG & Company. Later on he bought out his two partners.
In 1987, he took a leave of absence from the stockbrokerage business when he was drafted by President Corazon C. Aquino to be one of the trustees of the Asset Privatization Trust(APT). The year after he was named Chief Executive Trustee of APT and concurrently served as Chairman of the Board of Meralco. During his term as Chairman he spearheaded the privatization of Meralco.
After seven years in the government business he returned to the brokerage business in 1994 and in 1996 he was elected as the first independent candidate to the Board of Governors of the PSE.
