Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) Sets One-Day Record Volume In Equity And Index Options

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) reported that 629,072 equity and index options contracts traded on Oct. 17 marking a one-day record high volume. This was a 36 percent increase over the previous record-high daily volume on Oct. 11 when 453,001 contracts were traded.

The PHLX also reported a monthly volume record for September when 6,139,724 equity option contracts were traded. This was a 76 percent increase over the same month volume last year when 3,484,428 contracts changed hands

In addition, trading volume from January through September 2000 in the PHLX's 11 sectors index options reached a record 2,728,053 contracts traded, a 13 percent increase over the same trading period last year.

The PHLX trades more than 2,300 stocks, nearly 800 equity options, 11 sectors index options ad 100 currency pairs. Founded in 1790, it is the nation's first securities exchange.
