Date 16/02/2005

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that it is the first floor-based Exchange to trade all of its options and sectors indexes electronically, on and off the trading floor, using PHLX XL, the Exchange’s electronic trading platform. The rollout occurred two and a half months ahead of schedule with no disruptions to the trading system.

“ With the completion of the floor-wide rollout of PHLX XL, our customers are seeing much faster executions with deeper and more liquid markets across all options products,” said William H. Morgan, executive vice president and CIO.

PHLX XL is a proprietary electronic options trading system that enhances PHLX’s position as the most versatile, cost-efficient marketplace combining the best attributes of electronic and floor-based trading.

PHLX XL now enables market makers to electronically deliver streaming quotes on or off the floor, producing even tighter and deeper markets. It enables the PHLX to improve electronic access for customers, broker dealers and market makers while leveraging the advantages of a floor-based environment.

Meyer “Sandy” Frucher, PHLX Chairman and CEO said, “With the completion of our transition from a floor-based market to an electronic hybrid market, the big winners are the investing public and the trading community who will benefit from the increased liquidity and the speed in which their transactions will be executed.”
