Mr. Hunt most recently served as a Commissioner on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from February 1996 until August 2002.
Prior to being nominated to the SEC Commission, Mr. Hunt was Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Akron School of Law from 1987 until 1995 where he taught securities law for seven of the eight years he served as Dean. Mr. Hunt was Dean of the Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. where he also taught securities law. In addition, he served during the Carter and Reagan administrations at the Department of the Army in the Office of the General Counsel as Principal General Counsel and as Acting General Counsel. Mr. Hunt was an associate with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue from 1977 to 1979 where he practiced in the fields of corporate and securities law, government procurement litigation, administrative law, and international trade. From 1962 to 1967, Mr. Hunt served as a staff attorney at the SEC.
A native of Danville, Virginia, Mr. Hunt earned a bachelor's degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1957 and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1962. Mr. Hunt received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Fisk University in 1999.
