Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces Volume Increases In All Options Products For June

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that volume increased in all options products for the month of June.

Equity options trading volume reached 9,206,179 contracts, up 7.43% compared to the previous month when 8,569,550 contracts traded. Equity options volume increased 36.75% compared to the same month last year when 6,731,895 contracts traded.

Sectors index options trading volume in June increased 40.30% when 282,790 contracts traded, compared to the previous month when 201,566 contracts traded.

PHLX currently lists options on 12 sectors: PHLX/KBW Bank Sector (BKXSM); PHLX Computer Box Maker SectorSM(BMXSM); PHLX Drug SectorSM (RXSSM); PHLX Gold/Silver SectorSM (XAUSM); PHLX Oil Service SectorSM (OSXSM); PHLX OTC Prime SectorSM (OTXSM); PHLX Defense SectorSM (DFXSM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector (DOTSM); PHLX Semiconductor SectorSM (SOXSM); PHLX Utility SectorSM (UTYSM); PHLX Housing SectorSM (HGX) and the SIG Investment Managers Index™ (SMQSM).

Trading volume in June in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 23,394 contracts, a 10.31% increase from the previous month when 21,207 contracts traded. Equity trading volume declined 9.81% when 293,369,612 shares traded as compared to the previous month when 325,293,713 shares traded. However, for the first six months of 2003, equity volume increased 73.20% compared to the same period in 2002.
