Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces September Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity trading volume reached 193,562,803 shares in September marking a 19.63% increase when compared to the same month last year when 161,795,103 shares traded. Equity trading volume increased 1.57% compared to the previous month's volume when 190,574,464 shares traded. Equity trading volume is 4.30% higher for the nine-month period this year when compared to the same period last year.

Equity options volume for the month of September totaled 6,121,189 contracts, a decrease of 28.58% when compared to the same month last year when 8,570,998 contracts traded. Equity options volume decreased 11.68% from the previous month when 6,931,065 contracts traded.

Sectors index options trading volume increased 7.08% when 240,733 contracts traded in September compared to 224,825 contracts in the previous month. Sector index option volume declined 33.12% when compared to the same month last year when 359,933 contracts traded.

PHLX currently lists options on 12 sectors: PHLX/KBW Bank Sector (BKX^SM); PHLX Computer Box Maker Sector^SM (BMX^SM); PHLX Drug Sector^SM (RXS^SM); PHLX Forest and Paper Products Sector^SM (FPP^SM); PHLX Gold/Silver Sector^SM (XAU^SM); PHLX Oil Service Sector^SM (OSX^SM); PHLX OTC Prime Sector^SM (OTX^SM); PHLX Defense Sector^SM (DFX^SM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector (DOT^SM); PHLX Semiconductor Sector^SM (SOX^SM); PHLX Utility Sector^SM (UTY^SM); and the PHLX Housing Sector^SM (HGX).

Trading volume in September in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 23,041 contracts, a 10.16% decrease over the previous month when 25,646 contracts traded, and a 36.16% decrease over the same month last year when 36,091 contracts traded.
