Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces May Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity trading volume for May totaled 151,818,975 shares, a 5% decrease over the same year ago period when 159,917,297 shares traded.

Equity options volume for May totaled 6,331,724 contracts, a 24 % decline over the same year ago period when 8,350,361 contracts traded.

Sectors index options trading volume for May totaled 411,604 contracts, an 8.4 % increase over the same year ago period when 379,815 contracts traded. Sectors index options trading volume in May was 4.7 % higher than April.

PHLX currently lists options on thirteen sectors: KBW Bank Sector^SM (BKX^SM); PHLX Computer Box Maker Sector^SM (BMX^SM); PHLX Drug Sector^SM (RXS^SM); PHLX Forest and Paper Products Sector^SM (FPP^SM); PHLX Gold/Silver Sector^SM (XAU^SM); PHLX Oil Service Sector^SM (OSX^SM); PHLX OTC Prime Sector^SM (OTX^SM); PHLX Defense Sector^SM (DFX^SM); PHLX Fiber Optics Sector^SM (FOP^SM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector^SM (DOT^SM); PHLX Semiconductor Sector^SM (SOX^SM); PHLX Utility Sector^SM (UTY^SM) and PHLX Wireless Telecom Sector^SM (YLS^SM).

Volume in customized and standardized currency options for May totaled 41,919 contracts, a 5% decrease over the same month last year when 44,171 contracts traded.
