Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces July Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity volume in July increased 8.44% when 275,446,763 shares traded as compared to the same year-ago period when 253,998,608 shares traded. Equity volume decreased 6.11% compared to the previous month when 293,369,612 shares traded.

Equity options trading volume for the month of July reached 8,771,958 contracts, up 6.71% compared to the same month last year when 8,220,015 contracts traded and decreased 4.72% compared to the previous month when 9,206,179 contracts traded.

Sectors index options trading volume in July increased almost 1% when 285,237 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 282,790 contracts traded. Sector index option volume declined 16.81% when compared to the same month last year when 342,877 contracts traded. PHLX currently lists options on 12 sectors: PHLX/KBW Bank Index (BKXSM); PHLX Computer Box Maker SectorSM (BMXSM); PHLX Drug SectorSM (RXSSM); PHLX Gold/Silver SectorSM (XAUSM); PHLX Oil Service SectorSM (OSXSM); PHLX OTC Prime SectorSM (OTXSM); PHLX Defense SectorSM (DFXSM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector (DOTSM); PHLX Semiconductor SectorSM (SOXSM); PHLX Utility SectorSM (UTYSM); PHLX Housing SectorSM (HGXSM) and the SIG Investment Managers IndexTM (SMQSM).

Trading volume in July in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 19,192 contracts, a 17.96% decrease from the previous month when 23,394 contracts traded, and a 57.81% decrease from the same month last year when 45,486 contracts traded.
