Equity options volume totaled 7,731,343 contracts, an increase of 12.69% when compared to the previous month when 6,860,613 contracts traded. Equity options volume decreased 3.12% compared to same month last year when 7.979,963 contracts traded.
Sectors index options trading volume increased 12.98% when 210, 265 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 186,106 contracts traded. Sector index option volume declined 31.70% when compared to the same month last year when 307,869 contracts traded.
PHLX currently lists options on 12 sectors: PHLX/KBW Bank Index (BKXSM); PHLX Computer Box Maker SectorSM (BMXSM); PHLX Drug SectorSM (RXSSM); PHLX Forest and Paper Products SectorSM (FPPSM); PHLX Gold/Silver SectorSM (XAUSM); PHLX Oil Service SectorSM (OSXSM); PHLX OTC Prime SectorSM (OTXSM); PHLX Defense SectorSM (DFXSM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector (DOTSM); PHLX Semiconductor SectorSM (SOXSM); PHLX Utility SectorSM (UTYSM); and the PHLX Housing SectorSM (HGXSM).
Trading volume in January in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 21,394 contracts, a 10.01% decrease from the previous month when 23,774 contracts traded, and a 20.96% decrease from the same month last year when 27,067 contracts traded.
