Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces February 2002 Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that equity trading volume for Feb. 2002 totalled 135,521,878 shares, a 19 % decrease over the same month last year when 168,211,183 shares traded.

Equity options volume for the month of Feb. 2002 totaled 6,200,295 contracts, a 20.6 % decline over the same month last year when 8,586,871 contracts traded.

Sector index options trading volume for the month of Feb. 2002 totaled 391,380 contracts, a 5.5% increase over the same month last year when 370,873 contracts traded.

PHLX currently lists options on thirteen sectors: KBW Bank SectorSM (BKXSM); PHLX Computer Box Maker Sector^SM (BMX^SM); PHLX Drug Sector^SM (RXS^SM); PHLX Forest and Paper Products Sector^SM (FPP^SM); PHLX Gold/Silver Sector^SM (XAUSM); PHLX Oil Service Sector^SM (OSX^SM); PHLX OTC Prime Sector^SM (OTX^SM); PHLX Defense Sector^SM (DFX^SM); PHLX Fiber Optics SectorS^SM (FOP^SM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector^SM (DOT^SM); PHLX Semiconductor Sector^SM (SOX^SM); PHLX Utility Sector^SM (UTY^SM) and PHLX Wireless Telecom Sector^SM (YLS^SM).

Volume in the customized and standardized currency options for Feb. 2002 totaled 36,001 contracts, a 0.3% increase over the same month last year when 35,872 contracts traded.
