Equity options trading volume for the month of August reached 7,728,975 contracts, up 11.51% compared to the same month last year when 6,931,065 contracts traded and decreased 11.89% compared to the previous month when 8,771,958 contracts traded.
Year-to-date equity volume was up 53.51% when 2,206,045,881 shares traded as compared to the same year-ago period when 1,437,114,643 shares traded. Equity volume in August increased 11% when 211,533,326 shares traded compared to the previous month last year when 190,574,464 shares traded. Equity volume decreased 23.20% when compared to the previous month.
Sectors index options trading volume in August increased almost 18.01% when 265,314 contracts traded compared to the same month last year when 224,825 contracts traded. Sector index option volume declined 6.98% when compared to the previous month when 285,237 contracts traded.

Trading volume in August in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 14,372 contracts, a 25.11% decrease from the previous month when 19,192 contracts traded, and a 43.96% decrease from the same month last year when 25,646 contracts traded.
