Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces April Volume

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity volume in April increased 71.28% when 284,620,449 shares traded as compared to the same year-ago period when 166,177,302 shares traded. Equity volume decreased less than 2 % compared to the previous month when 289,987,527 shares traded.

Equity options trading volume for the month of April reached 7,304,161 contracts, up 11.58% compared to the same month last year when 6,546,008 contracts traded and decreased less than 3% compared to the previous month when 7,518,398 contracts traded.

Sectors index options trading volume in April decreased 29.07% when 182,254 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 256,961 contracts traded. Sector index option volume declined 53.63% when compared to the same month last year when 393,021 contracts traded.

PHLX currently lists options on 12 sectors: PHLX/KBW Bank Index (BKXSM); PHLX Computer Box Maker SectorSM (BMXSM); PHLX Drug SectorSM (RXSSM); PHLX Gold/Silver SectorSM (XAUSM); PHLX Oil Service SectorSM (OSXSM); PHLX OTC Prime SectorSM (OTXSM); PHLX Defense SectorSM (DFXSM); TheStreet.com Internet Sector (DOTSM); PHLX Semiconductor SectorSM (SOXSM); PHLX Utility SectorSM (UTYSM); PHLX Housing SectorSM (HGX) and the SIG Investment Managers IndexTM (SMQSM).

Trading volume in April in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 18,303 contracts, a 44.80% decrease from the previous month when 33,156 contracts traded, and a 60.82% decrease from the same month last year when 46,742 contracts traded.
