Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces Across-The-Board Volume Increases In September

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that volume in all of its products increased compared to last month's volumes. In addition, equity option market share increased 4.5% since August, rising to 13.81%. Compared to the same year-ago period, market share in equity options jumped 8%.

Equity options trading volume for the month of September reached 10,110,772 contracts, up 65.18% compared to the same month last year when 6,121,189 contracts traded. Volume increased 30.82% compared to the previous month when 7,728,975 contracts traded.

Equity volume was up 43.25% when 277,272,126 shares traded as compared to the same year-ago period when 193,562,803 shares traded. Equity volume in September increased 31.08 % compared to the previous month when 211,533,326 shares traded.

Sectors index options trading volume in September increased 30.27% when 313,607 contracts traded compared to the same month last year when 240,733 contracts traded. Sector index option volume increased 18.20% when compared to the previous month when 265,314 contracts traded.

Trading volume in September in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 17,806 contracts, a 23.89% increase from the previous month when 14,372 contracts traded, and a 22.72% decrease from the same month last year when 23,041 contracts traded.
