The European Energy Exchange (EEX) welcomes Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. (PGE) as a new Market Maker on the Spot Market for EU allowances (EUA). PGE, which recently joined as a trading participant on EEX, will quote on the EUA Secondary Spot Market as a Market Maker.
“We are glad that PGE supports liquidity in our trading market”, says Steffen Köhler, Chief Operating Officer of EEX, adding “Market Making contributes to tighter spreads and incentivises further participants to become active on our market.”
From January until November 2013, 24.0 million EUA have been traded on the secondary spot market which is more than a 4-fold increase on the volume from the same period in 2012 (5.2 million EUA). Overall, the volume on the EEX Emissions Markets amounts to 798 million tonnes of CO2 traded from January until November (same period in 2012: 212 million tonnes of CO2).
EEX and Eurex offer their participants a platform for trading in CO2 emission allowances. Within the framework of this co-operation, which was launched in December 2007, the Eurex participants can trade the CO2 derivative products listed on EEXand participate in the EUA auctions through their existing infrastructure and a simplified admission process.
