Peter has been acting as Chairman at the CC since the sad death of the previous Chairman, Professor Paul Geroski, who died in August this year.
The appointment was announced by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Alan Johnson.
Peter has been a Member of the CC since May 2003 and a Deputy Chairman since September 2003.
Peter Freeman said:
“These are the most regrettable circumstances in which to succeed to this important position, but the Competition Commission is a very strong institution and I am confident I can give it the direction it now needs.”
Peter is currently chairing market inquiries into Home Collected Credit and Domestic Bulk LPG.
