Pension Protection Act Will Give Workers The Information And Advice They Need To Prepare For Retirement - Securities Industry Association Urges Passage Of Pension Reform Bill

Date 09/06/2005

The Pension Protection Act, introduced today by Representative John A. Boehner (R-OH), includes provisions that will strengthen workers’ retirement security and help employees get better access to the professional advice they need to prepare financially for retirement.

“The Pension Protection Act will give American workers additional security in planning for their retirement,” said Securities Industry Association Vice President and Director, Retirement Policy Liz Varley. “It also removes obstacles that have kept employees from receiving the professional investment advice they need to plan for their future.”

The bill includes a comprehensive investment advice proposal that has passed the House three times recently. It would allow employers to provide workers with access to advice, and also includes safeguards to ensure that the advice is in the best interest of the worker.

“We urge the House to pass pension reform legislation incorporating key elements of Rep. Boehner’s bill, particularly the advice provisions,” said Varley.
