The pan-European gas trading platform PEGAS registered a total volume of 124.9 TWh in June 2016, which amounts to an increase of 81% compared to the volume traded over the same period last year (June 2015: 68.9 TWh).
Spot Markets
Overall spot trading volumes in June amounted to 40.2 TWh, which represents a year-on-year increase of 41% (June 2015: 28.4 TWh). The June volume on the Dutch TTF market area reached 12.3 TWh improving on last year’s volume by 51%. The German NCG and GASPOOL volume increased to 16.0 TWh (+33%) including 4.2 TWh in quality-specific gas products. The French PEGs volume rose to 9.7 TWh, while the Belgian ZTP and ZEE registered a volume of 1.4 TWh. Furthermore, spread transactions amounted to 3.1 TWh.
The hourly products registered a total volume of 662,083 MWh. 4 878 transactions have been made which shows the continued strong interest among PEGAS market participants for these hourly contracts.
Derivatives Markets
In June, trading volumes on the PEGAS derivatives markets reached 84.7 TWh, which represents more than twice the volume traded last year (40.4 TWh in June 2015). The Dutch TTF futures market mainly contributed to this increase with a total monthly volume of 72.2 TWh, amounting to more than double the volume traded in June 2015 (31.7 TWh). The volume on the German GASPOOL and NCG market areas totalled 8.3 TWh while the French PEG Nord and TRS market areas reached 2.9 TWh. Moreover, the PSV market area registered a monthly volume of 1.3 TWh, a sharp 7-fold increase compared to last year (June 2015: 183,000 MWh). Clearing via trade registration reached 2.9 TWh while the total volume of spread transactions amounted to 2.4 TWh.
