PEGAS, the pan-European gas trading platform operated by Powernext, announced that a total volume of 65.9 TWh was traded in August 2015, representing a year on year increase of 39 % (August 2014: 47.2 TWh).
Spot Markets
Overall spot trading volumes in August totalled 23.8 TWh, which is an increase of 5 % compared to August 2014. The German GASPOOL and NCG areas registered a volume of 9.1 TWh in August which included 2.2 TWh traded in quality-specific gas products. The volume in the French PEG Nord and TRS market areas totalled 7.4 TWh, showing an increase of 18 % while volumes on the Dutch TTF hub increased to 6.7 TWh. In addition, PEGAS reached a new monthly record on the Belgian ZTP area with 560 GWh registered in August (previous record: 442 GWh in March 2015).
Derivatives Markets
Trading volumes on the PEGAS derivatives markets continued its positive development throughout August also. A total of 42.1 TWh was traded representing a year-on-year increase of 71 %, while the volume traded in the German GASPOOL and NCG market areas amounted to 6.2 TWh. Trading volumes in the French Nord and TRS market areas reached 5.7 TWh, which is an increase of 89 % compared to August 2014. Furthermore, the Dutch TTF futures market contributed 29.5 TWh to the total volume which is almost the double of last year’s volume. The derivatives volume registered for clearing via trade registration amounted to 7.1 TWh.
